I braced for a sleepless night

Hey Reader!

A few nights ago I was taking my supplements with dinner, fully on autopilot, when I realized (with a gasp of horror!) that I'd just swallowed my morning ADHD meds right along with them.

It was 6:30pm, and I immediately started panicking about the sleepless night I was sure was coming. I take my ADHD meds first thing every morning because it's a stimulant, and my sleep is already a nightly negotiation with my anxiety and chronic pain.

My very first thought, as soon as the pills washed down, was: "Oh my God, I'm such an idiot."

My brain skipped right past "huh, that's annoying" and went straight to quietly (okay, and a little out loud) berating myself for a mix-up anyone could make.

And then, the unthinkable happened...

I slept! Pretty much exactly like I always do: not amazingly, but not one bit worse than usual. The catastrophe never showed up, but the self-flagellation sure did.

That voice has lived with me for decades, holding me to a standard no actual human could meet. And of course it came into my business too.

Which is exactly what this week's episode of Bold Women in Business is about. I sat down with career coach Monika Kunz (founder of The Springboard and one of my favorite clients πŸ’—) to talk about the patterns we entrepreneurs swear we left behind at our old jobs β€” the people-pleasing, the over-delivering, the imposter voice that gets loud right before we do anything that matters β€” and why they follow us into our businesses anyway.

You didn't leave all that baggage at the office. You took yourself with you.

Go watch/listen, and maybe go a little easier on yourself this week than I did at 6:30pm 🫢🏻

Check out this project!

Allison is working on a book about the wide-ranging experience of infertility (my own story will be featured in there!), but she needed a website to showcase her work to potential book agents and publishers. We created her a simple, but impactful, brand and website to present her work effectively.

See you next week, Reader!

Boldly yours,

Hey Reader! A few days ago, Instagram released a new wordmark (that's the words part of a logo), and the internet has been up in arms. At first glance, you might think, "wait... does that say Instagzam?" You'd be right. It totally says that πŸ˜† It's also just plain lazy. Which, if you ask me, is reason enough for the collective internet to be pretty peeved. Let's face it: most of what we see online these days is lazy AF. It's the same AI garbage spat back in your feed over and over (and over...

Hey Reader! I used to have a big problem my husband would (lovingly) tease me about incessantly. Someone would ask me what I do, and I'd spend the next 5 minutes watching their eyes glaze over as I fumbled over how to put my work into words. Words are kind of my thing β€” hence, the teasing from Tzvi. What I discovered over the years, though, especially as I delved deeper and deeper into brand identity work, is that I wasn't alone in this struggle. We think we know who we are, and most of us...

Hey Reader! When I first started my business, pricing my services felt completely random. I'd slap a number on a proposal to a potential client based on literally nothing, then close my eyes and cross my fingers as I sent my email off into the ether. Then I met Peter. Peter Giordanno III is basically a wizard when it comes to pricing β€” though he'd probably fight me on that designation because it implies pricing is some magical spell only accessible to the supremely enlightened. (I don't know...
